This book covers exploration and evaluation practices for various types of complex reservoirs, and summarizes a series of practical and effective techniques and methods. For example, it shows how, by integrating multiple types of new logging technology, complex reservoir petrophysics evaluation can be performed using high-precision core experiment data and quantitative logging interpretation; and demonstrates how the technology of sporopollen assemblage and palynofacies analysis can improve the time precision of sequence stratigraphy and the quantitative study level of sedimentary facies, respectively. It discusses how reservoir lateral prediction and vertical resolution can be substantially improved by integrating fracture prediction and geostatistical inversion; and presents innovative log interpretation charts for the lithological identification of metamorphic rocks, e.g. GR-DEN crossplot and Impedance-Resistivity crossplot. To support the main content, the book features a wealth of high-resolution, thin- section images, quantitative illustrations of palynofacies composition, multi-property overlapping map set and quantitative tables. It offers an essential reference guide for researchers in geological exploration and evaluation, and will also appeal to a broad readership, from engineering technicians to advanced graduate students in related areas.

Author Biography: Xiaodong Cheng received his BS degree in applied geophysics from the Yangtze University (JiangHan Petroleum Institute) in 1993, MS degree in Geology from the China University of Petroleum in 2001 and MBA from the Tsinghua University in 2010. He joined in the Petroleum industry from 1993, and has more than 25 years' experience concentrating on the reservoir exploration and evaluation works. Now he is a senior petrophysicist and in charge of the oil fields E&P works in International Logging Company of CNPC Greatwall Drilling Company, and his international work area including Sudan, South Sudan, Syria, U.A.E, Oman, Iraq, Iran, Cuba, Azerbaijan, Canada, China, etc. Leyuan Fan received his BS and MS degrees in Geology from the China University of Petroleum, and then joined the CNPC Greatwall Drilling Company in 2004. He has been working at complex reservoir exploration and evaluation for more than 15 years. He is a senior petroleum geologist and is presently doing G&G study works in the international oilfields including Sudan, South Sudan, Syria, U.A.E, Oman, Iraq, Iran, China, etc. His interest is G&G study and comprehensive logging data evaluation. He has 1 patent, 1 computer software copyright registration and has published more than 30 technical papers on G&G studies and logging data interpretation techniques. Weikang Gu received his BS degree in Petrophysics from the China University of Petroleum in 1982, MS degree in Geophysics from Yangtze University (JiangHan Petroleum Institute) in 1997, MBA degree from University of International Business and Economics in 2004. He joined in the Petroleum industry from 1982, and has more than 36 years' experience concentrating on the wireline logging, reservoir E&P works. Now he is the Chief Scientist of CNPC Greatwall Drilling Company in charge of wireline logging and mudlogging technology study, also in charge of international marketing. He has published more than 10 technical papers on wireline logging and oil E&P works.
