Both solid knowledge of the basics as well as expert knowledge is needed to create reliable, long–lasting and material–specific adhesive joints in the industrial and trade sectors –– information that is extremely difficult and time–consuming to find in the current literature.
Written by specialists in various disciplines from both academia and industry, this handbook is the first to provide such comprehensive knowledge in a compact and well–structured form. Alongside such traditional fields as the properties, chemistry and characteristic behavior of adhesives and adhesive joints, it also treats in detail current practical questions and the manifold applications for adhesives.

Nota biograficzna:
Walter Brockmann studied mechanical engineering in Hanover, gaining his doctorate in 1969. After many years at the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Materials Research in Bremen, he became been heading a workgroup for materials and surface technology as professor for materials science at the TU Kaiserslautern since 1990. In 1997 and 1998 he was an honorary professor at Northeastern University Shenyang, China, where he also became Research Fellow Professor at the Heilongjiang Academy of Sciences, Harbin. In 1999 he received the order of merit from the DECHEMA. Professor Brockmann has six books and 266 scientific publications to his name, and is a founding member of the expert group for adhesive technology at DECHEMA and the EURADH conferences.
Paul Ludwig Gei^
6; studies mechanical engineering at the University of Kaiserslautern, where he earned his doctorate in 1998 under Professor Brockmann. After working in the fastening industry for five years, he was appointed junior professor for joining technologies at the Univesity of Kaiserslautern in 2003 and successfully completed tenure track in early 2008. Professor Geiβ is head of the Workgroup Materials and Surface Technologies (AWOK) at the University of Kaiserslautern and conveyor of the Material Testing Standards Committee "Adhesives and adhesive joints" at the German Institute for Standardization (DIN) and a member of the board of the subject division Adhensive Technology of the DECHEMA.
Jürgen Klingen studied chemistry at Duisburg University, majoring in instrumental chemical analysis. He gained his doctorate in polymer interlacing under Professor Robert Gillard at the University of Wales. He has been working at 3M Deutschland GmbH in Neuss for 26 years, since 1996 as head of the R&D department for adhesives, new materials and polymer processes. Dr. Klingen is the owner of several patents in the field of adhesives chemistry.
Bernhard Schröder earned his doctorate in physical chemistry following his chemistry degree in Münster in 1978. After some years working in industry, he switched to the NMI Natural and Medical Sciences Institute of Tübingen University in 1986, as head of surface technology he is responsible for R&D projects, in particular surface finishing processes for medical products with function layers and adhesive processes in medical technology. Dr. Schröder has several patents and publications in adhesive and medical technology to his name.
