This book presents all important aspects of modern alkaloid chemistry, making it the only work of its kind to offer up–to–date and comprehensive coverage. Concentrating initially on the structure and biology of bioactive alkaloids, the book then analyses new trends in alkaloid isolation and structure elucidation, progressing to the synthesis and biosynthesis of alkaloids.
A must for biochemists, organic, natural products, and medicinal chemists, as well as pharmacologists, pharmaceutists, and those working in the pharmaceutical industry.

Nota biograficzna:
Ernesto Fattorusso is Professor of Organic Chemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Naples "Federico II", where he has twice been elected Dean. He has won the "A. Quilico Award" of the Società Chimica Italiana and the "P. Scheuer Award" of the Akademie of Erfurt. The focus of his scientific activity is on the structure and biogenesis of melanins, as well as the chemistry of bioactive metabolites from marine organisms and from Mediterranean flora. Prof Fattorusso has more than 300 research papers and 9 patents to his name.
Orazio Taglialatela Scafati is Ass ociate Professor in Organic Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Naples "Federico II". He got the Ph.D. in "Bioactive Natural Products " in 1997, under the supervision of Prof. Fattorusso. His research interests deal with isolation, structure elucidation and semisynthetic transformations of bioactive secondary metabolites from marine invertebrates and terrestrial plants. Prof. Taglialatela Scafati is author of more than 50 research papers, two patents and is the editor of the book "Flavour and Fragrance Chemistry".
