The Nature of New Testament Theology: Essays in Honour of Robert Morgan

This volume brings together some of the most distinguished writers in the field to provide an overview of discussions about the nature of New Testament theology. The volume explores New Testament theology in three main ways. Firstly, it examines the development, purpose and scope of New Testament theology. It then goes on to examine the relationship of New Testament theology with other branches of theology, such as systematic theology, biblical theology, practical theology and social scientific criticism. Finally, it looks at crucial issues within the New Testament, such as the historical Jesus, the theology of the cross, eschatology, ethics and the role of women. The book is dedicated to and honours the work of Robert Morgan, whose pioneering work gives it its title.

Christopher Rowland is Dean Ireland’s Professor of Exegesis of Holy Scripture at the University of Oxford and a Fellow of Queen′s College, Oxford. His previous publications include The Open Heaven (1982), The Book of Revelation (1998), Christian Origins (revised edition, 2002), Radical Christian Writings: A Reader (Blackwell, 2002), and, with Judith Kovacs, Revelation (Blackwell, 2004). Christopher Tuckett is Professor of New Testament Studies in the University of Oxford and a Fellow of Pembroke College, Oxford. His previous publications include The Revival of the Griesbach Hypothesis (1983), Reading the New Testament (1986), Q and the History of Early Christianity (1996), Luke (1996) and Christology and the New Testament (2001).
