CBT for Psychological Well–Being in Cancer is the first clinical manual to target psychological well–being in cancer by combining skill sets from DBT and other well–known and well–researched approaches. It provides clinical material in a clear session–by–session structure, organized by topic, allowing it to be customized to fit individual or group treatment contexts. Clinicians and teams can import the approach into their existing work, selecting those sessions and skills that best address the particular challenges being faced by given individuals in their care, or create an entire program with the manual and its approach as the foundation.
The clinical material of the book comprises 27 sessions built around a biopsychosocial model. All sessions follow a consistent structure: six general sessions are designed to clinically orient clinicians to the population, promote effective approaches and prepare them for the work; seven sessions are then designed for clients with biological issues; a further seven sessions are designed to tackle psychological issues, and finally, seven social sessions are devised for clients who have difficulty interacting with their support systems, with work, and in their general relationships with others. The manual is ideal for individual practitioners, inpatient and outpatient hospital programs, established specialty programs, and for use by any mental health professional working with challenging clients.
Mark Carlson, is the founder, CEO and co–owner of Mental Health Systems, PC (MHS) and an adjunct faculty member in the psychology department at Argosy University Twin Cities, United States.
