Animal Physiotherapy – Assessment, Treatment and Rehabilitation of Animals, Second Edition is the essential reference guide for physiotherapists and physical therapists looking to apply the proven benefits of physiotherapy to the treatment of companion and performance animals. Now fully updated throughout to cover all the latest research in this rapidly expanding field, the text includes seven new chapters that provide greatly expanded coverage of practical treatment and rehabilitation. Many more illustrations have been included and full colour has been added throughout.
This book provides applied background information covering animal behaviour, nutrition, biomechanics and exercise physiology. For veterinarians and others who work with animals, the book reviews the scientific principles behind the practice of physiotherapy and rehabilitation, and what it can achieve. The fundamental and applied chapters cover information relevant to dogs, cats and horses. Key features of the text are the inclusion of reviews of different physiotherapy techniques, drawing on both human and animal literature; a discussion of approaches in small animal medicine as well as for elite equine athletes, and the inclusion of applied evidence–based clinical reasoning model, with case examples. The result is an invaluable, up–to–date resource for physiotherapists and physical therapists.Chapter 1 Introduction
