Developments in Lubricant Technology

This book provides the basics of lubricants and their applications. Divided into 10 chapters this book gives an introduction to lubricant technology for users new or unfamiliar with the field. The book covers all classes of lubricants including base oils (both mineral and synthetic), followed by the description of chemical additives and their evaluation. Major industrial oils such as turbine, hydraulic, compressor, metal working fluids and gear oils and automotive oils for various engines are covered. A chapter on synthetic and environmentally friendly lubricants is also included as these emerging technologies that are gaining importance and are required in critical applications. Finally lubricant blending technology, storage, re–refining and condition monitoring of lubricant in equipment is discussed.

S. P. Srivastava has forty–five years of research experience in the field of fuels, lubricants, and additives. He is a former executive director of the R&D center of Indian Oil Corporation (a global Fortune 500 company), and Director of Indian Oil Blending Ltd and Iftex Oils & Chemicals Ltd. Dr. Srivastava has been responsible for developing an entire range of fuels and lubricants for the Indian Oil Corporation. The author and coauthor of 200 research papers, thirty patents, and four books, Dr. Srivastava is currently an independent consultant on fuels and lubricants.
