To the dentist or maxillofacial practitioner, radiology is an essential diagnostic discipline and a valuable tool for treatment planning. Now more than ever, dentists are often the first to encounter lesions of the face and jaws and are frequently held liable for recognizing pathologies and other sites of concern. Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology: A Diagnostic Approach provides clinicians of varied disciplines and skill levels a practical and systematic approach to diagnosing lesions affecting the face and jaws. Firmly grounded in evidence–based research, the book presents a clear understanding of the clinical impact of each lesion within a prospective diagnosis. Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology is logically organized, beginning with the basics of radiological diagnosis before discussing each of the advanced imaging modalities in turn. Modalities discussed include helical and cone–beam computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, positron emission tomography, and ultrasonography. Later chapters cover radiological pathologies of the jaw, and also those of the head and neck immediately outside the oral and maxillofacial region. Written by a recognized expert in the field, Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology contains a multitude of clinical images, practical examples, and flowcharts to facilitate differential diagnosis. Key Features: Accessible and user–friendly Features flowcharts detailing step–by–step diagnosis Solid evidence–base, thoroughly referenced throughout Well illustrated with over 600 clinical images

David MacDonald , BDS, BSc(Hons.), LLB(Hons.), MSc, DDS(Edin.), DDRRCR, FDSRCPS, FRCD(C) is Associate Professor and Chairman of the Division of Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology at the University of British Columbia.  He has held previous appointments at the universities of Edinburgh, Bergen, and Hong Kong and has published extensive on topics of the radiological aspects of the epidemiology of disease affecting the face and jaws. These publications include a wide range of  lesions affecting the face and jaws of the hitherto underdocumented Hong Kong Chinese, an important world community, representing a large part of the Chinese diaspora.

“Therefore, this textbook would seem best utilized as a reference by those who routinely practice interpretive and diagnostic oral maxillofacial radiology, or by clinicians who practice in medical environments where advanced imaging is employed.”  ( Journal of Clinical Orthodontics , 1 August 2012) “For those (readers) who already have fundamental radiological knowledge, the book is a fresh innovation with evidence–based radiological explanation of diseases with emphasis on advanced diagnostic methods.”  ( Danish Dental Association , 1 December 2012) “The superb image quality and succinct text make it easy to recommend to dental practitioners, maxillofacial specialists and residents embarking on their careers.”  ( Int. J. Oral Maxillofac. Surg , 2012) "Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology: A diagnostic approach (author David MacDonald, Wiley Blackwell, 2011) offers a wealth of information in two clearly delimited, easily accessible dimensions ... The book is soundly sequenced from the initial concepts to the more complex ideas and techniques. Opening with Part 1, which creates a roadmap to the subject, this guided tour is rich in descriptions of diagnostic and management strategies." (Indiana University School of Dentistry, 2011)
