Evaluation is an essential component of any educational program, but especially in continuing education, which extends into many diverse settings and serves many different kinds of adult learners. In Evaluation for Continuing Education, author Alan Knox–widely renowned in the field of adult education–provides a long–awaited, encyclopedic resource for anyone who needs to do program evaluation in any continuing education setting. The only comprehensive guide to evaluation in adult education currently available, this book is particularly easy to use as a reference volume, as each chapter stands alone. Knox addresses the why of evaluation as well as the how, and shows how evaluation activities support and enrich program planning and implementation–and how they influence effectiveness.
"This book poses some excellent ideas, suggestions, and examples of evaluating adult and continuing education programs. It will be very helpful to a person who is learning the concepts of evaluation and needs practical applications of these concepts. Dr. Knox′s examples, given his extensive experience, shed a great deal of light on the processes and uses of evaluation in the adult education arena." ––John Boulmetis, professor, adult education, University of Rhode Island and coauthor, The ABC′s of Evaluation
"This comprehensive guide to evaluation in adult and continuing education will help practitioners demystify the process. Designed to be used as a reference, it can be consulted for specific questions or problems related to evaluation. Examples from numerous settings illuminate the practical information and guidelines provided by Alan Knox. Knox′s many years of experience in adult and continuing education add depth to the volume." ––Susan Imel, Director, ERIC Clearinghouse on Adult, Career, and Vocational Education, The Ohio State University
"Alan Knox has married the wisdom born out of his years of successful experience and his encyclopedic knowledge of the evaluation literature to produce the first truly comprehensive guide to evaluation for our field." ––Ronald M. Cevero, University of Georgia
