Written by a stellar panel of experts under the direction of Marilyn Aguirre–Molina–one of the most distinguished educators and researchers in the field of public health–Health Issues in the Latino Community is a comprehensive resource that examines the issues that affect Latino′s health and health care in the United States."Latinos are the fastest growing group in America. Though they share many health issues with all Americans, they also possess distinct cultural characteristics, expectations, and illness profiles. It will be a rare clinician who will not encounter Latino patients in daily practice. Thus, Health Issues in the Latino Community should be essential reading for all 21st century practitioners"—Steven A. Schroeder, M.D., president and CEO, The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation"This important book, by a cadre of leading Latino researchers, policy leaders, and practitioners, could not be more timely. It fills a crucial gap in our understanding of the health and well–being of Latinos, the fastest growing, and soon to be the largest, ethnic/racial group in the United States. This comprehensive analysis of the demographic and health status of Latino populations in the United States is a groundbreaking piece of work. It will make an invaluable contribution to informing the nation′s Latino health agenda."—Allan Rosenfield, M.D., DeLamar Professor and dean, Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University"Health Issues in the Latino Community attempts to address the key and crucial health issues that affect Latino′s health. As we enter the 21st century, Latinos are becoming the largest ethnic/racial group in the United States. Anyone desiring insight on Latino health issues will find this book to be a comprehensive reference."—Nathan Stinson, Jr., M.D., Deputy Assistant Secretary for Minority Health
