Peroxyl radicals are formed in biological systems, the atmosphere and aqueous waste and are important intermediates in the breakdown both of organic molecules and several inorganic species. As peroxyl radicals react with CFCs and HFCs in the atmosphere resulting in the further destruction of the ozone layer, there has been a great deal of progress towards understanding peroxyl radicals and their reactions in both the gas and liquid phase.
