KATHRYN F. STALEY has worked with hedge funds, brokerage firms, and other financial insti tutions to determine which stocks to sell and sell short. She has taught financial statement analysis for the Association for Investment Management Research (AIMR) and lectures on the absence of economic reality in publicly reported earnings announcements. She reads balance sheets and footnotes for fun and profit.
