Genomics has revolutionized biological research over the courseof the last two decades. Genome maps of key agricultural specieshave offered increased understanding of the structure, organization, and evolution of animal genomes. Building upon thisfoundation, researchers are now emphasizing research on genomefunction. Functional Genomics in Aquaculture looks at theadvances in this field as they directly relate to key traits andspecies in aquaculture production.

Functional Genomics in Aquaculture opens with twochapters that provide a useful general introduction to the field offunctional genomics. The second section of the book focuses on keyproduction traits such as growth, development, reproduction, nutrition, and physiological response to stress and diseases. Thefinal five chapters focus on a variety of key aquaculture species.Examples looking at our understanding of the functional genomes ofsalmonids, Mediterranean sea bass, Atlantic cod, catfish, shrimp, and molluscs, are included in the book.

Providing valuable insights and discoveries into the functionalgenomes of finfish and shellfish species, Functional Genomics inAquaculture, will be an invaluable resource to researchers andprofessionals in aquaculture, genetics, and animal science.

Marco Saroglia is a Full Professor of Aquaculture in the Departmentof Biotechnology and Life Sciences and Chairman of the Doctorate inSciences of Biodiversity, School of Doctorate in Biological andMedical Sciences,  University of Insubria, Varese, Italy.

Zhanjiang (John) Liu is a Distinguished Alumni Professor in theDepartment of Fisheries and Allied Aquacultures and Program of Celland Molecular Biosciences and Associate Dean for Research in theCollege of Agriculture at Auburn University.
