The Psychology of Dyslexia: A Handbook for Teachers Second Edition looks at are the description and definition of dyslexia and the assessment of dyslexia, as well as the history of the concept and current research findings. The book also includes reviews of both the neuro–psychology and the social aspects of dyslexia. In addition, aspects of cognitive psychology – in particular memory, phonological development and models of reading and spelling – and their relationship with dyslexia are covered.
New to this edition is a CD–ROM containing over 20 case studies which focus on, among other things, high– and low–ability dyslexics, severe dyslexia, simple spelling problems with high reading ability, ADHD and other neurodiversities and adults with dyslexia. The CD–ROM also includes commentary on helping dyslexics and a selection of phonic reading and spelling tests.
The Psychology of Dyslexia: A Handbook for Teachers Second Edition is a superb introduction to the psychology of dyslexia for teachers.
′The book covers a brood range of scientific material with clarity in a style which should be readily accessible to his target audience. Michael Thomson addresses areas which have proved controversial with a wisdom and openness drawn from his years of experience in the field. It is rare to combine a theoretical understanding of a complex area with the applied insights delivered here.′ – Professor Angela Fawcett
′The Psychology of Dyslexia covers the topic in both breadth and depth and will continue to be a valuable resource for parents, educators and researchers alike. This new and updated version provides pertinent and up–to–date information that successfully links theory to practice in a rigorous, yet accessible, manner.′ – Dr Joel Talcott
