It takes as its principal reference point the book Chemistry of Aluminium, Gallium, Indium and Thallium (Blackie, 1993), edited and part–written by Tony Downs, but differs in its greater preoccupation with the chemistry of the elements and their compounds. The book covers new facts, developments, and applications in the context of more general patterns of physical and chemical behavior, particularly the main growth areas, including the chemistry of lower formal oxidation states, cluster chemistry, among others.
