Enigmatic and visionary, pioneer of the French New Wave movement, Jean–Luc Godard remains one of the most influential filmmakers of the post–war era. A Companion to Jean–Luc Godard presents a compendium of original essays by top film scholars that focus on a wide range of issues relating to Godard’s illustrious cinematic career. Featuring contributions from an international cast of major film theorists and critics, the majority of essays focus on several of the major films in Godard’s remarkably prolific film oeuvre – some 70 features in nearly 60 years. Other readings bring fresh insights into the great director’s biography, including reflections on his personal philosophy, politics, and connections to other critics and filmmakers. A Companion to Jean–Luc Godard offers invaluable insights into the life and works of one of the most important and influential filmmakers in the history of cinema.
