Geotechnical Engineering Design

For each design topic, the fundamental concepts should be first understood. So in each chapter, the concepts are first reviewed and explained. Then, the design approach is clearly and concisely presented, followed by a detailed sample problem solution to demonstrate the design approach. Graphical illustrations are important in civil engineering design. I plan to include sufficient figures, photos, and charts to explain the concepts and the design approach and results. I also intend to present each topic in a practical and up–to–date fashion — modern instrumentations and case studies, if any, will be included in each chapter. Each topic is presented in a way that is easy to understand and follow. Sufficient sample problem illustrations, homework problems, and term projects are included in each chapter. A separate solution manual is provided. The content in the book is so designed that it can be covered in one semester. The book contains the major design topics in geotechnical engineering (refer to the Table of Contents), so that college students do not have to buy other reference books. Some of the state–of–the–art designs, such as soil nail walls, liquefaction, earthquake foundation design, and erosion controls, and modern instrumentations in geotechnical engineering are included in this book.
